The combat pace is probably the only thing that resemblance the two. So, if you want a non-buggy Vindictus in BDO, I'm afraid you're gonna get disappointed. BDO is a large scale MMO, not solely focus on the combat aspect, and offer many many sides activities, while Vindictus is a heavily combat focus game, with the only way to get money, item is too constantly doing battle, grind, and repeat. I really do hope better action MMOs come out, I'm mainly anticipating Blue Protocol, Project BBQ, and Granblue Fantasy Relink (though iirc it's an online-multiplayer game not an MMO), but I think it's safe to assume that no game will ever be a close match to Vindictus' combat.Ĭomparing BDO and Vindictus is a weird thing to do. It's more akin to a fighting game and the PvP aspect of it was the main attraction, with the PvE boss fights not really being as skill based as Vindictus, it was kind of more about your gear and being prepared iirc. The game is famous for it's PvP which i haven't tried in a long time, but the PvE experience is also quite fun but nowhere as fun a Vindictus' bosses (though i still have to reach endgame in DN).Īlso Blade & Soul is a good suggestion, i played it around the initial level cap when it came out, the only thing i can say about it is that the combat is definitely good but different. The class design (from my limited experience) is very good with a diverse range of playstyles with different abilities to choose from. It's not just a hotbar masher, but similar to Vindictus, you have to integrate LMB/RMB and dodge inputs in different ways with your skills to get different types of attacks, and so combos flow very well. And I actually recently started playing Dragon Nest again (after like 7 years lol), and so far I can say that the in terms of combat mechanics I'd say it's the next best game you can play.
Honestly the closest type of game experience i've come to in terms of combat is the Soulsbourne games, especially Bloodborne and Sekiro (though in this game you're restricted to playing a "fast class" the whole game, but the block/parry and counterplay mechanics in general make it really engaging).Īs for other action MMOs, I've been into SoulWorker which the combat is mechanically stale compared to Vindictus, but is just a fun game to play in general with a cool community as well. Every game has its downsides and i guess dealing with lag is one, but hopefully the game is still playable from where you're at. The thing is after all these years, Vindictus is still hands down the best action MMORPG as literally no other game has come close to it's unique and engaging combat system.
